An African American ~ President in the White House
When Barack Obama our 44th President (2009-2012) and his family members, descendants of slaves move into the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, in Washington, DC – they will not be living in the rooms in the basement. The White House is their home for the next four (4) years.
African American ~Slaves in the White House
When George Washington was President (1789-1797) he lived in New York and Philadelphia. He brought cooks, maids and coachmen from Mount Vernon — all of them slaves — to work at his house alongside white servants. The Presidents in the early days were expected to hire and pay for their own staff. Since many of the early Presidents were southern planters, they brought their slaves to work for them in Washington, D.C.
Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809) brought slaves from Monticello. During President Jefferson term, (The Second Child Ever Born in The President’s House Was Born to His Colored Slaves, Fanny and Eddy living in the basement rooms).
Enslaved craftsmen helped build the White House. Colored servants helped save documents and art when the British burned the structure in 1814. Most of all, African Americans made the President’s household operate efficiently.
As an African American Woman (Birth Certificate reads Colored Person) I am proud and over whelmed with happiness in my heart and soul. It gave me great pleasure to be alive and witness this Historical Presidential Election on November 04, 2008.
God Bless America!

A miracle indeed, our first Black President, a message and incentive to all of our children but esp. our young Black men and women. That against all odds if you can see it and you believe it you can be it. From the "hood" to the "White House" if President Elect Obama can do it so can they. What better role model? And what a beautiful strong family, for the world to see and for young couples to emulate? The Black family frequently has so many negative connotations associated with it, such as single parent house-hold, Dead-beat Dad's, etc. you would be lead to believe all of our families are dysfunctional. But we now have a "normal family" for all couples to admire and pattern themselves after. A strong Black man with his strong Black women at his side to draw strength from. Who despite all they do, still manage to make the family a priority. An example for Black families and all couples everywhere. Yes indeed what a magnificant "Portrait of a Miracle".
